Phase I: Lesson Plan (1)

 Phase I: Lesson Plan (1)

Rationale

The reason for this lesson is for students to know how the 5 C’s (copper, cattle, cotton, citrus, climate) have helped and continue to help Arizona’s economy.

Overview

Grade Level

3rd grade

Subject(s)

Social Studies, Arizona, Economics

Topic of Study

Arizona Economy 5 C’s

Time Allotment

1 hour

Standard

3.E1.1 Describe and discuss industries and occupations that have shaped Arizona.

Key concepts include but are not limited to the 5 C’s (copper, cattle, cotton, citrus, climate), ranching, mining, farming, and tourism.

Objectives

TSWBAT work in a group of 2 to 3 students to make a picture collage on 1 google slide that describes how one of the 5 C’s helps Arizona’s economy using only pictures from the internet and then present their collage to the class and discuss how their C has shaped Arizona.

Implementation

Procedure

The teacher will start the lesson by having students pull out their school issued device (iPad) and log on to the join.nearpod.com and enter the code from the board. While the students are doing this, the teacher will project the nearpod on the board (smartboard). The teacher will go through the nearpod while facilitating that students are logged on and following along. Once the nearpod lesson is finished the teacher will assign groups of 3 students and assign them one of the 5 C’s. The students will use their school issued device (iPad) and create a google slides presentation and share it with one another. They will collaborate to create a picture collage about their C and it will describe, only using pictures from the internet, no words, how it has helped Arizona’s economy. The teacher will facilitate the groups as they work. The groups will then present their collage.

Technology Integration

The technology that I will integrate is using their school issued device (iPad), nearpod with responses that they have to type on their iPad, and creating and collaborating on a google slide while accessing and retrieving pictures from the internet.

Universal Design

Putting the subtitles as the video plays, allowing them to use their headphones so the slides and instructions can be read to them from nearpod, providing examples of a finished product, allowing them to use the nearpod while creating their collage

Assessment

Procedure

I will determine the students' success in meeting the standards and objectives of the lesson if the student is able to complete a picture collage of their assigned C and can discuss how the C has helped Arizona’s economy when presenting. The activity that will be assessed is their picture collage and presentation and I will use the rubric below to assess it.
